Celebrate each member with annual points or a personal discount, with messages automated through Shopify Flow.

Setup
In Gibbond Settings, enable Birthday rewards and choose points or a percentage/fixed discount. Set the gift label, discount validity (30 days by default), minimum spend and discount combinations. Rewards are disabled by default.
Customer profile
Members enter their complete birth date, including year, in their loyalty account. Saving is optional and allowed once; merchants can correct mistakes from the customer page. Customers can remove the date. The year supports future merchant marketing activities; saving it does not grant marketing consent.
Eligibility and timing
Save the date at least 30 days before the birthday. Corrections restart that waiting period. Enrolled members receive one gift per birthday year, even after clearing the date or switching reward types. Processing starts at 09:00 shop time, with hourly checks and up to seven days of outage recovery. February 29 is observed on February 28 in non-leap years.
Points and discounts
Points are confirmed immediately and follow the normal expiry and tier rules. Birthday discounts cost no points, are restricted to the member and can be used once. The code appears in the loyalty account. Changing settings does not create a second annual gift.
Shopify Flow
Use the birthday-reward-issued trigger after the gift has been issued. Check the sending provider’s marketing-consent requirements, then send a message containing the points or discount code. Do not award the gift again in Flow. Flow availability follows your Gibbond plan; there is no built-in email sender. A stable grant ID helps deduplicate repeated deliveries.
Privacy and troubleshooting
The full birth date is stored in Gibbond. Optional synchronization stores it in the private Shopify customer metafield $app.birthday as YYYY-MM-DD; external metafield edits do not change reward eligibility. Missing gifts: check enrollment, the 30-day wait, enabled settings and shop timezone. Missing messages: check Flow availability, workflow activation and consent.
